Publishing Manager

Description

A book publishing manager oversees all aspects of the book production process for a publishing firm or an independent book publisher. In this responsibility, the book publishing manager selects authors and commissions books and e-books, negotiates contracts with the authors, and tracks the writing process so that the author meets publishing deadline. Other responsibilities include working with editors and the marketing team to prepare the book for publication and ensure sales. They may also liaise with copyright lawyers and work with graphic designers, printers, and others to ensure each phase is completed properly throughout the publishing process.

Key Duties:

• ​Overseeing the publications at a publishing house;
• Negotiating contracts and licensing agreements with authors, distributors and vendors;
• Taking care of a book’s publicity by securing interviews and media coverage;
• Leading teams of editors and designers in preparing a book for publication;
• Reviewing content during each stage of editing to ensure material is ready for publication;
• Approving copy for promotional materials before publication;
• Completing book reviews for new books from other publishers;
• Editing print material when it needs adjusting;
• Reporting directly to the publishing director to share progress.
