Know What You Want to Say

Before you worry about how something looks, sounds, or performs, ask a simpler question:

What am I trying to say?

A beautiful song without something to express can become decoration.

A well-shot film without a meaningful story can become spectacle.

A polished article without an idea can become noise.

Craft matters.

Technology matters.

Presentation matters.

But they are servants of the message—not substitutes for one.

You don’t need to know exactly how the work will turn out before you begin.

But you should care about what you’re trying to communicate.

Because when the creator knows what matters, every creative decision has somewhere to point.

Start with the meaning.

Then build the work around it.
